Can you recommend some hotels that are within walking distance of the fireworks and the Pops Concert? 3 star and above--Thanks!

Susan's reply: Hi Paul - Happy to - there are a lot of very good choices.

The Boston Pops concert is at the Hatch Shell on the Boston Esplanade (as you probably already know), and the fireworks are set off on a barge in the river not far from the Hatch Shell.

There are a number of 3 star and higher hotels in Back Bay, especially near Copley Square, as well as a couple in the Park Square area (on the other side of the Public Garden), and one in Beacon Hill and also the West End - all are about a 10-15 minute walk from the Hatch Shell.

Here they are, by star level:

3 - 3.5 stars:

Sheraton (huge business hotel on Boylston St adjacent to Prudential Center) - Back Bay

Charlesmark (small boutique hotel on Boylston St - books up quickly) - Back Bay

Beacon Hill Hotel - small boutique hotel in Beacon Hill (Charles St)

Park Plaza - in the Park Square area, close to Public Garden

4 - 5 stars:

Taj - Back Bay - used to be the Ritz - corner of Arlington and Newbury, over looking the Public Garden - this is about the closest to the Hatch Shell (well, now that I think about it, Beacon Hill Hotel may be almost as close)

Lenox Hotel - older, known for top-notch service - close to Copley Square, Back Bay

Copley Square Hotel - recently renovated

Liberty Hotel - West End, just across Cambridge Street from Beacon Hill - about a 10 minute walk down Charles St to the Hatch Shell - very trendy - located in an old jail next to Mass General

Westin Copley Place - very nice, right in Copley Square

Four Seasons Boston - Park Square - overlooks Public Garden - luxurious and usually pricey - 5 stars

A few additional hotels are listed on the Boston Fireworks page, including one in Cambridge (5 minute ride away by subway on the T's Red Line). They're slightly farther from the Hatch Shell, but certainly within easy walking distance.

If you book early, it's worth looking for special packages. The July 4th holiday usually attracts lots of visitors to Boston, but there are sometimes some attractive packages available if you book early enough - closer to the holiday, rates tend to rise. I've added links to HotelsCombined, which compares the lowest quotes from various booking agencies as well as any specials or discount deals.

Best wishes for a great time at the concert and fireworks!

Susan

Boston Pops and Fireworks Hotel
by: Paul - Maine

Stayed at "The Taj" Hotel and walked to the fireworks and Boston Pops Concert. Excellent hotel, convenient to all of the weekend's activities.

Susan's reply - Hi Paul, thanks so much for the feedback about your experience at the Taj, and very glad to hear it worked well for you. Even without the fireworks and concert, the Taj has a perfect location (it used to be the Ritz until 5-6 years ago) right across from the Public Garden and close to everything.

Maybe you'll make this an annual visit!

Susan
