Walk from Boston's New England Aquarium to Seaport World Trade Center

by Eleanor

Is it possible to walk from the Aquarium to the Seaport World Trade Center? If so what is the best route? Thanks!

Susan's reply: Yes, this is a wonderful walk. You can choose from 2 interesting routes: Boston HarborWalk and the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

From the Aquarium, you'll find HarborWalk right by the water. Simply follow the walk going south (you'll see signs periodically, but it's easy to know that you're on it in this area). You'll wind behind the InterContinental Hotel, and to your left, you'll see the Moakley Footbridge. Go across the bridge to the South Boston Waterfront neighborhood.

At this point, you can either walk along the water on HarborWalk, or head down Seaport Ave to the Seaport World Trade Center. There's a good map showing this area at the bottom of the South Boston Waterfront page.

If you want to walk along the Greenway, you'll find it in front of the Aquarium. Depending on what time of the year you're here, you'll even see a carousel in the area between the Aquarium and Faneuil Marketplace on the other side. From the Aquarium, go left.

Not long after you pass the InterContinental Hotel on your left, you'll see the Moakley Footbridge. Although the Greenway actually continues past South Station to Chinatown, you'll turn left and walk across the Moakley Bridge, and then onto the World Trade Center, as described above.

If you decide to take the HarborWalk route, check out free HarborWalk tours as well as a free MP3 audio tour download at the Boston HarborWalk website.

Both routes take about 10-15 minutes by foot, depending on how fast you walk, and you'll pass many interesting sites along both of them. I would tell you my favorite - but I like each of them equally.
