Good Day,

We have booked a hotel (Embassy Suites, at 207 Porter Street, East Boston) on the 12 of November. We are going to TD Garden to see a hockey game (Sabres vs Bruins). Once parked at the hotel, we have no in & out privileges. Could you please advise - is there (other than taxi) city bus service to and back from hotel and arena? I would appreciate any help or advice. Thank you in advance. Bill Kurpel, Stoney Creek, Ontario Canada

Susan's reply: Hi Bill - The Embassy Suites Hotel is right at Logan Airport, so you have a couple of very good options for easily, quickly, and cheaply getting to Boston. (By the way, I would NOT advise a taxi from the airport except for someone who's carrying a ton of luggage and/or arriving very late and jet-lagged - fare is comparatively expensive because they have to take an land route and pay a couple of pricey tolls, which they pass on to you; a bus would be much cheaper but would also take a relatively long time.)

The first good option is to walk to the T (Boston's subway) station near your hotel - the Airport T stop on the T's Blue Line is about half a kilometer away, across a little park opposite your hotel - the hotel staff can point you toward it. Fare is $2, unless you get a stored value "Charlie Card" which drops the fare to $1.70 - probably not worth the effort for a short visit. If the weather is wonderful and you want to see a bit of Boston, take the T just 1 stop toward the city to the Aquarium stop, which is on the waterfront on the other side (takes about 2 minutes to get there). Right across from Aquarium is the Rose Kennedy Greenway - walk up it to the Garden (maybe 8-10 minutes). Alternately, you can stay on the Blue Line to the Government or Bowdoin stop, and then walk to the Garden. If the weather is bad, switch to the Green Line at the Government Center stop, and take the Green Line directly to North Station, which connects with TD Garden.

Another option is to take a water taxi from the airport to Boston - costs $10 (I think you can get a round trip ticket for $17), and takes about 7-8 minutes. To get the the water taxi dock, take the Embassy Suites hotel shuttle to the airport and take the #66 shuttle bus (which also goes to the Airport T stop) - in fact, ask the shuttle bus driver about dropping you off right at the water taxi drop. On the Boston side, the water taxi drops you off at Long Wharf, which is also right at the Aquarium T stop.

Here is a link to Boston public transportation information - you'll see links for both the subway and water taxis on the page.

Also, this page about hotels near TD Garden has a map near the bottom that shows the general area around the Garden - just slide it over a bit to the right to see your hotel location near the airport.

Have a great time at the game!
