How can I see the fireworks from the Charles River? Are there any boats that take paying guests? Thanks in advance for your help!
Susan's response: Yes, you can see the fireworks from the Charles River if you're in a boat in the right position. The key thing to know is that the part of the river around where the fireworks are launched is blocked off to boat traffic, and the river bends above and below this area.
However, the fireworks are high overhead, so you'll have a pretty good view wherever you are, even if there's some obstruction (like trees and buildings at ground level. I've watched a couple of times from fairly far up the river, but even though the views had some tree blockage, they were basically fine. Still, there's nothing like being right up close!
Most of the cruise boat companies and many charter boat operators offer special July 4th Fireworks cruises. You might also check with Boston Duck Tours to see if they are offering anything this year.
Although you probably won't find any discounts for Fireworks cruises, keep in mind that at other times, many of these cruises are available with the GoBoston and other discount cards - GoBoston is now (2011) offering Duck Tours as a free option choice on their 3, 5, or 7 day cards, which is a sweet deal.
If you need more choices, here are a few numbers you might try:
Boston Seaport Boat Charters (617-261-6633, 800-422-8419),
Boston Yacht Charters (617-723-8810)
Massachusetts Bay Lines (617-542-8000)
Odyssey Cruises (866-310-2469)
Spirit of Boston (866-307-2469)
Hope you find the perfect July 4th river view of the fireworks!
