And as a bonus, the hotel is close to the Boston Museum of Fine Art, Symphony Hall, Fenway Park, and Copley Place.

Mandarin Oriental Boston, luxury hotel with a top Back Bay address

Although the Mandarin Oriental Boston opened only in the fall of 2008, you can easily see why it has quickly become the luxury hotel of choice in this part of Back Bay.

Why is the Mandarin Oriental one of the best Boston luxury hotels?

Let's start with room size.  If you're used to other Boston hotels - or for that matter, hotels in just about any large city - you know that rooms tend to be small . . . sometimes very small.  But at the Mandarin Oriental Boston, standard rooms start at 400 square feet (huge for Boston!) - and deluxe rooms and suites are even larger.

And room size is just the beginning.

Ploh pillows, Frette linens, and the most comfortable beds imaginable ensure that you'll have a blissful night's sleep.

Color schemes feature taupes, caramel, golds, and touches of teal blue, with lots of individual differences among the rooms.  Furnishings and room designs hint at Asian influences.  Silk curtains frame stunning views of Back Bay residential and shopping areas.

Marble bathrooms feature deep soaking tubs, separate rainfall showers, and high-end toiletries.

You'll also enjoy high-speed Internet connections, large high-definition flat screen TVs, and surround-sound stereo systems.

Although the Mandarin Oriental Boston's regular rates reflect its position as a luxury hotel, it frequently offers very attractive special packages and deals that can give you big savings - so don't forget to check with several on-line booking services to make sure you find the best deal.

The hotel's 136 rooms and 12 suites share space with 50 high-end residences - so if you become addicted to the perfect service, serene surroundings, and top-notch Back Bay address, you can make this your permanent address.

Reward yourself in one of Boston's best spas and fitness centers

The Mandarin Oriental Boston's 4th floor is home to a huge luxury spa . . . 9 private treatment rooms including one for couples, vitality pools, and "Experience" showers.

Most important are marvelous spa treatments designed to bring harmony to body, mind, and spirit.  You'll choose from a personalized array of massage, facials, body treatments, hydrotherapy, manicure, and pedicure services.

The Spa Cafe offers delicious healthy fare in an on-site bistro.  Featuring local, seasonal, and New England products, the Spa Cafe serves delicious juices, smoothies, snacks, and light meals.

The state-of-the-art fitness center features the latest in exercise equipment, plus personal trainers.  You'll also find small but wonderful luxuries . . . televisions, headphones, fruit, towels, and cold drinks.

Mandarin Oriental Boston's dining and drinking options

Asana, headed by Executive Chef Nicolas Boutin, features contemporary cuisine with French and Asian influences.  And of course, organic New England produce, regional and international artisinal cheeses, and carefully chosen wines.

The menu highlights fresh local fish, prime beef and other meats, and Maine lobsters.  If the a la carte items seem on the pricey side, especially if you want more than one or two courses, try the fabulous 4-course chef's tasting menu - a bargain at $48 (although some options require supplements) plus wine pairings for an additional $31.

Another popular option is the private Chef's Table.  You and up to 7 other guests can dine in a special room right in the kitchen as the chef prepares a spectacular customized dinner designed just for you and based on your preferences and interests.  Optional wine pairings will enhance your meal.

Mandarin Oriental Boston's M Bar and Lounge features a huge menu of perfectly prepared cocktails plus an excellent wine list.  You can nibble on Asian-influenced tapas and other light fare.  M Bar has become a popular neighborhood gathering spot for the professionals who work next door in Pru Center and other nearby businesses - so at times this is a rather lively spot!

And don't forget - Mandarin Oriental Boston is surrounded by other excellent restaurants.  Next door, you'll find L'Espalier, one the most famous French restaurants in Boston.

Or, enjoy a fabulous meal and fabulous views of Boston at the Top of the Hub restaurant in adjacent Prudential Center.  Or a New England Clambake at Jasper White's Summer Shack.

Just up the street, you'll find McGreevy's, super sports bar famous for its early support of the Boston Red Sox and currently co-owned by a member of one of Boston's favorite Irish punk rock bands.  You'll find other popular Boston nightlife on Newbury Street and around Fenway Park.

How to find the best rates for the Mandarin Oriental Boston

First, remember to compare prices from several hotel booking groups to make sure that you find the best deal  - especially if you're interested in a special hotel package.  Sometimes the slightly higher rates have the best goodies included, so be sure to check out those.

For some hotels, you'll always find the best deals through the hotel booking groups - but at the Mandarin Oriental Boston, you'll sometimes find terrific deals on their website that you won't find elsewhere.

Here are the 2 places on their website to look:

  • On their top menu bar, click on "Rooms and Suites."  On the menu that appears on the right side of the screen, click on "Tempting Offers."  This will pull up lots of special packages for Boston.  Some are very attractive and represent big cost savings.
  • Scroll down to the very bottom of any page, and click on "Marketing Partners."  This brings up deals for specific Mandarin Oriental properties - and usually Boston is on the list.  The deals are typically for airline miles, or 3 nights for the cost of 2 deals when you pay with a certain type of credit card.

Once you find a special package that you like for the Mandarin Oriental Boston, make your hotel reservations as soon as you know your dates so that you won't lose the deal.
