Low Art Tiles: The History & Artistry with Complimentary Libations

by Sara
(Boston, MA)

Enjoy complimentary refreshments, beer and wine in the unique event venue, Circa at Restoration Resources in Boston’s South End, as Richard Pennington, a former Boston Globe reference librarian, and the author of “Low Art Tile – John Gardner Low and the artists of Boston’s Gilded Age” takes you through a pictorial history and presentation on the Low Art Tile Company. Participants will have an exclusive opportunity to see tiles from Richard’s private collection, and see first hand how these beautiful artistic tiles are designed with brilliant shades of light and dark, noting how elements of the tile catch light from varying angles, giving a sense of infinite depth.

You’ll also get a window into a world gone by –including inside the former Low factory in Chelsea, as well as historical images of Chelsea, Boston, Chicago and New York. The Boston-based tile company was one of the most successful makers of artistic ceramic products in American history and was in operation from 1878 until 1904. (fireplace tile surrounds, cast iron stoves, soda fountains) A few of these salvaged products are currently on display and for sale in the 7000 sq. ft. showroom and warehouse at Restoration Resources.

This event is one of five ArtWeek Boston exclusive events hosted by Restoration Resources. All ArtWeek participants will receive a 10% discount on ALL store merchandise.

Parking: Metered and ample FREE on street parking. Closest t stop is Mass Ave. on the Orange line, or the bus at Dudley station or the Silverline bus which stops on Washington St., just a block from Restoration Resources.
