Praised for “exuberance, imagination and sheer brio” (Jazz Review ,UK), the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra will open its 44th season at Scullers Jazz Club on Thursday, September 29, at 8:00 pm, Doubletree Suites, 400 Soldiers Field Road, Boston, MA. Tickets: $25. Reservations and information: 617-562-4111. The exhilarating show will feature music from the band’s latest CD, Passages (on the Leo Records label). Selections from the disc will include Mark Harvey's Saxophrenia (written for Joe Lovano and the MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble) and Spaceways (Harvey’s tribute to Sun Ra). Also on tap: the premiere of a new Mark Harvey piece Northeast Express, a rollicking shuffle blues evoking the roar and romance of trains for more than a century along the Northeast Corridor. Rounding out the show will be the Duke Ellington-Juan Tizol classic Caravan and the Duke Ellington-Johnny Hodges ballad Jeep's Blues. Aardvark has been called “stunningly beautiful and adventurous” (New York City Jazz Record), and “one of the best jazz ensembles in the world” (Jazz Podium, Germany).

The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, founded in 1973, is one of the longest continuously operating large jazz ensembles in the world. The orchestra performs original compositions by Mark Harvey, as well as classics from the jazz tradition, American music, and world music.
