Howard Johnson Fenway

Hotels near Fenway Park - Hotels in Boston Massachusetts

Red Sox fans love the Howard Johnson Fenway, an inexpensive Boston hotel only 2 blocks from the famous ball park.

The Howard Johnson is one of the most popular hotels near Fenway Park among fans seeking affordable rates.  And depending on when you visit Boston, hotel packages and specials may be available here that give you even bigger savings.

In fact, this HoJo is so close to Fenway Park that on game nights, the stadium lights cast a glow across the parking lot.  You can hear the cheering and smell the hotdogs.

Located on a busy stretch of Boylston Street that includes small businesses and eateries, the Howard Johnson Fenway Hotel may remind you of Boston motels from a by-gone era

In fact, this low-rise hotel is a slightly unusual sight in a city that's now full of sleek, tall hotels oozing "luxury" - but then so is Fenway Park.  In fact, the hotel fits perfectly with the stadium.

More about Howard Johnson Fenway

The Howard Johnson Fenway is one of the smaller hotels in Boston Massachusetts, with only 94 rooms.

Decor is pleasant, but predictable and somewhat generic - not too different from what you'll find in many mid-priced chain hotels/motels where part of what you're getting when you check in is a known brand, and all the predictability that goes with it.

Predictability can be a good thing!

If you're looking for luxury digs or unique surroundings or ambiance . . . well, you'll probably be much happier at Hotel Commonwealth or the Eliot Hotel Boston, both of which are also an easy walk to Fenway.

But if you want to be and feel really, really close to Fenway - remember, you're almost under the stadium lights! - and you don't care that a standard-issue bedspread rather than Italian linens covers your bed, then this may be a place that you'll want to consider.

Howard Johnson Fenway Park Hotel in BostonYou won't find the cheapest hotel rates in Fenway here, especially on game nights (you can usually find lower rates at Boston Hotel Buckminster).

However, you do get a few nice extras such as the great outdoor pool behind the hotel.

Although you will pay a parking fee if you come by car, it's not as exorbitant as at many other hotels.

On the other hand, you can sometimes find very good rates here, especially on non-game nights.  Be sure to check out Boston hotels packages and hotel specials as well, for possible additional savings.   The best approach is to check rates from several booking agencies to make sure you get the best deal.

What else besides Fenway Park is nearby?

The Howard Johnson - Fenway is located on busy Boylston Street, very close to several of Boston's premier teaching hospitals and medical centers: Beth Israel, Brigham & Women's, Boston Children's Hospital, Dana Farber, Joslin Diabetes Center, and more.  The Green Line of Boston's subway system, the "T," has stops nearby.  Other Fenway attractions, colleges and university, museums, and music performance halls - are within an easy walk.

In fact, if you cross Boyston Street and walk a couple of blocks to the east, you'll come upon the Back Bay Fens, one of Boston's loveliest parks.  The part that you'll see first is one of my favorite "hidden" spots in the entire city: the Victory Gardens.   From the street, you can't see much, but once you wander down the narrow paths between these special walled gardens, you're in another world.  If you stay at the Howard Johnson Fenway, this is a great area to explore.

One of the best Italian restaurants in the city, Canestaros, is on Peterborough Street, one block south of Boylston.   Other excellent Fenway restaurants are also nearby.

And of course, in the streets surrounding Fenway, you'll find some of Boston's best sports bars as well as House of Blues Boston.  That means that even when you stay at Howard Johnson Fenway on non-game nights, you can still find plenty of comfortable places to watch your favorite team and hear some good music.
