Can the fireworks be seen from Boston Common? What else is at the Common besides ice sculptures?
Thank you. Tanya
There are actually 2 sets of fireworks. The first takes place at 7pm from the ball field on Boston Common, so you can see it from pretty much everywhere on the Common. It lasts 12 minutes, and is the smaller of the 2 displays, but still really spectacular and fun.
The bigger fireworks show is at midnight and takes place over Boston Harbor. Boston Common isn't a good place to watch it because the tall buildings of the Financial District will be between you and the Harbor, and therefore blocking your view.
Any place around the waterfront from Charlestown, the North End, the Downtown Waterfront, South Boston Waterfront, and East Boston will give you a great view. Castle Island in South Boston will also be fine.
The Downtown Waterfront is about a 10 minute walk from the Common - maybe less - and the view of the firework display will be well worth the walk. Probably the simplest way to go is to walk along Tremont St to Court St, turn right, and walk straight down (Court St becomes State St). This brings you out near the Aquarium.
