First Night Boston Fireworks Viewing

Is it possible to see the fireworks from Copley or Boston Common? Or will we need to be down at the Harbor to see the fireworks? Thanks!! Martha

Reply from Susan at Boston Discovery Guide:

There's a small fireworks show at 7pm from Boston Common and you can view it from almost anywhere on the Common. It wouldn't be visible from Copley because of the buildings, plus the fireworks are launched from the ball field near the cemetery, which is not the highest spot.

But for the big fireworks show at midnight, you do need to be near the waterfront, because the fireworks are launched from Boston Harbor. Again, because of the buildings (such as those in the Financial District) your view would be blocked from the Common or Copley.

Anywhere along the waterfront will give you a good view - Downtown waterfront, North End, Charlestown, East Boston, or the South Boston Waterfront. Another option is the small plaza at Government Center that overlooks Faneuil Hall - although it will probably be very crowded.

Have fun, and Happy New Year!
