The Boston Event Calendar for September, 2010, is packed full of events as students surge back into the city for the opening of classes at local colleges and universities.
Sports fans will love the excitement of preseason games as the Boston Bruins rev up for their new season - and of course Red Sox fans will be obsessing about the American League playoffs.
Toward the end of the month, Boston's fall foliage will start showing some color. Check my weekly foliage updates for updates and foliage photos, as well as the best foliage viewing spots right in the city. If you haven't already, consider booking a fall foliage cruise. During this month and next, you'll see spectacular scenery along the New England and Canadian coastlines.

Come join other wine lovers at the First Annual Boston Wine Week, launching on September 20 and continuing through September 26.
Following the same concept as the very popular Boston Restaurant Weeks, during Wine Week participating restaurants will showcase their selections of fabulous affordable wines, with all available for only $9 a glass or $32 a bottle.
Already joining in are top Boston restaurants such as Beacon Hill Hotel and Bistro, Clink, Lala Rokh, Locke Ober, Brasserie Jo, Petit Robert Bistro, 75 Chestnut, and The Beehive - all well-known for their excellent wine lists and cellars.
Each has committed to offering at least 6 handcrafted wines from around the world (some of which retail up to $90/bottle) at this special price. Expect a little friendly competition among the participants to see who can offer the best vintages at this price point - and get ready to raise your glass to Boston Wine Week. (You're sure to enjoy the food, too.) Boston Wine Week website
Seems like the Boston Bruins just hung up their skates after the spring playoffs . . . but preseason starts this month, with 2 games at TD Garden:

Saturdays at midnight - AMC Loews Harvard Square 5 Theatre
11 Church Street, Cambridge; nearest T station: Harvard Square; 617-864-4581
Rocky Horror Picture Show has been screening here at midnight on most Saturday nights since 1984. It's become a Boston tradition - even though it's across the river in Cambridge.
You've probably seen this R-rated cult classic one or many times before . . . but the fun here is dressing up in your favorite over-the-edge goth attire and joining fellow RHPS fans in Harvard Square at midnight.
Warning - this is a "participatory" production, with Full Body Cast providing a "cast" (mostly local college students) devoted to being as outrageous and over-the-edge as possible. It is most definitely not a family-friendly event.
Clothing, makeup, and hair becomes even more outre as Halloween draws near, making this a popular September thru October destination.
When: September 22, 2010 - January 17, 2011
Where: Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA Boston), 100 Northern Ave, South Boston Waterfront
Closest T station: Red Line/South Station (about a 10 minute walk to ICA), or take Silver Line from South Station
ICA's biennial 2010 Foster Price showcases art created recently by 9 Boston artists. Come gaze at everything from sculpture, paintings, photography, films, videos, and installation art - and get ready for the unexpected, eclectic, and unusual!
