7-Day Pass for Boston's Subway - A Good Deal?

by Erin W.
(Albany, NY)

If I purchase an unlimited weekly card for myself, can I use this same card to pay for my family? Or do we each need to purchase our own unlimited week card? Thanks, Erin

Susan's reply: Excellent question! Unfortunately, the 1-day, 7-day, and monthly T (subway) passes are limited to use by just 1 person. Don't forget, though, that kids 11 and under ride free (up to 2 kids per adult).

The weekly 7-day passes are an especially good deal. You're making great choice by getting them - the T is the easiest way to get around Boston, short of walking.

The only caveat that I'd offer is this: the central section of Boston where most tourist attractions are located (downtown, waterfront, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, North End, South End, etc.) is much more compact that you might imagine. If you're traveling with really young children who get cranky about too much walking - like more than a couple of blocks (speaking from memory about my own at certain ages), then riding the T for even short distances can be worth it.

Otherwise, you may find that you walk rather than ride, especially because there are lots of interesting things to see. Of course, if you're going farther away from the center of the city, such as to the zoo or into Cambridge or Quincy, then the T is a must.

Have a great time while you're here!
